Robert Roy Garibaldi
Bob Garibaldi, a lifelong Stockton resident passed away on May 13, 2023, at the age of 81. Bob was born in Stockton and was preceded in death by his Father Ernie Garibaldi, his mother Wilma Garibaldi, and his brother Dick Garibaldi.
He is survived by his Wife, Carol Garibaldi, Sons Bob (Rachelle) Garibaldi, Jack (GiGi) Garibaldi, and Daughter Kristen (Rick) Weeks & Bob's loving grandchildren, Jack Garibaldi, Nathan, Lindsey, and Ashley Weeks.
Bob attended Stagg High School followed by Santa Clara University, with whom he won the 1962 College World Series Most Outstanding Player award. He is the only player from Santa Clara University to ever win that award. He also set two records in that Series: a strikeout record (38 strikeout) and an innings-pitched record (27 2?3 innings pitched) [sic].
The New York Mets and Casey Stengel tried to convince him to sign with the Mets and traveled to Stockton to meet with him. In the end, Bob chose not to sign with the Mets. Instead, he signed with the Giants. He jumped straight from college to the major leagues, making his big-league debut on July 15, 1962. Facing the New York Mets, he pitched a perfect inning in his debut. He was the ninth youngest player in 1962 and the Giants later went on to play the New York Yankees in the World Series.
After Baseball, Bob had a very successful career in the Distribution business. Working for Pepsi-Cola and later becoming a partner in San Joaquin Beverage (Coors) Distributorship with the Klein Family of Stockton and Jim Plunkett.
Bob and Carol split time in Stockton and their retirement home in the desert. He was a devoted fan of Santa Clara and the SF Giants and loved golfing with his friends at the Stockton Country Club. A fiercely competitive person in all his endeavors, he will mostly be remembered by family and friends as a very kind and generous husband, father, and grandfather.
A private memorial service will be held.
