Obituary - Ronald's Obituary, Clary-Glenn Funeral Home (February 26, 2026)
Ronald "Ron" Kennett, 83, of Lawrenceburg, Indiana, passed away on February 26, 2026. Ron lived a life defined by faith, family, sportsmanship, and a deep love for the people he coached and mentored.
Born to Willis Kennett and Lillian Ashcraft Fike, Ron's athletic ability stood out early. At Lawrenceburg High School, he was a standout multi-sport athlete, excelling in baseball, basketball, and track. He earned First Team All-State honors in both baseball and basketball, achievements that reflected not only his talent but his discipline and work ethic. His abilities attracted professional attention, and he was offered a baseball contract by the Pittsburgh Pirates, but Ron chose to pursue his education and collegiate athletics instead.
At the University of Kentucky, Ron competed at the highest level as a two-sport athlete, lettering all four years in both basketball and baseball. Playing basketball under legendary coach Adolph Rupp, he was a proud member of the 1963-1964 Kentucky Wildcats team that reached a #1 national ranking. While he took great pride in his accomplishments, Ron believed true success came from teamwork, preparation, and respect for the game.
Coaching became Ron's life's work. He coached baseball and basketball at the high school and Division I collegiate levels in Georgia and Florida, earning the respect of players and colleagues alike. Through the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, the Dug-Out Club, and local youth programs, Ron invested deeply in young athletes, teaching lessons that extended far beyond the field. Later, he returned to Indiana to coach baseball at Milan High School before retiring to Florida. In 2020, his lifelong contributions to athletics were recognized with induction into the Lawrenceburg High School Hall of Fame.
Ron's greatest lessons happened after the game ended. He believed in upholding a strong character and never abandoned someone who needed encouragement, advice, or a compassionate ear. Whether on the field or around the kitchen table, Ron led by example - showing that kindness and integrity were the true measures of success.
Above all, Ron's greatest joy was his family. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Joan, son Ronnie Kennett (Ellis) of Daphne, Alabama, and daughter Charmaine (Cris) Eddings of Mobile, Alabama. He is also survived by 35 nieces and nephews, each of whom held a special place in his heart.
Ron was preceded in death by his mother, Lillian Ashcraft Fike of Madison, IN, and father, Willis Kennett of Lawrenceburg, brothers and sisters, Willis Kennett, Jr., Wanda Evans, Yuelta Dodd, Robert Kennett, Dorothy Cox, Donna Martini, and Denver Kennett.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, April 18th from 12:00 PM - 3:00 PM at one of Ron's favorite places, Moe's Original BBQ, located at 701 SpringHill Avenue, Mobile, AL 36602.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made in Ron's memory to Friends of the Mobile Animal Shelter https://fomaspets.org or Krewe de Rescue https://krewederescue.org.
Ron will be remembered for his athletic excellence, steady leadership, and loving heart - and for the countless lives he touched as a coach and friend. His legacy lives on in the many lessons he taught and every life he helped shape.
