Frank C. Holew
Frank C. Holew, 65, a former basketball player for Loyola High School and employee of the United State Fidelity and Guaranty Company, died yesterday at Union Hospital.
Mr. Holew, a bachelor, lived at 6319 Belair Road. He retired one year ago.
Burial is scheduled for Monday at St. Michael's Church in Overlea.
Survivors include three brothers, Walter, John and Jesse, all of Baltimore, and five sisters. They are Mrs. Anna Jablonski, Mrs. Alma Federowic and Mrs. Helen Bicewski, all of Bridgeport, Conn. and Mrs. Clara Krein and Mrs. Eleanor Stallings, of Baltimore.

Frank Holew, 1925 WMI Loop Referee, Dies

Frank C. Holew, 65, one of the top-notch basketball referees sent to Allegany County by the Playground Athletic League 40 years ago, died last week at his home at 6319 Belair Road, Baltimore, after he had suffered an apparent heart attack.
A requiem mass was held on Monday of this week at St. Michael's Church, Overlea, and interment was in St. Stanislaus Cemetery.
Refereed All 1925 Games
During the 1925 season, Holew refereed all of the games played in the W.M.I. Basketball League. Games in the girls' circuit were handled by Rachel Provines, also of the P.A.L.
Among the players in the league that year were Eddie Wolfe, "Red" Ayers, Freddie Htezel, Brace Krimm, Dave Sigel and Pete Carpenti, at Allegany; Ernie, Karl and Harrison Schramm, Dave Thomas, Tom Chappell and Courtney Andrews of Barton; Albert Cook, Joe Reese, Charles "Shrimp" Bond and Mickey Monahan, a Beall; Ray Eichhorn, "Chick" Ralston, Milton "Ducky" Dick, of Central High, Lonaconing, etc.
Played for Loyola
Holew played on the Loyola High School basketball teams in Baltimore from 1916 to 1919 and then joined various amateur and semi-pro quints.
It was during those days with such teams as St. Andrews, Hendlers and the 104th Regiment Armory that Holew reportedly put on a scoring spree that netted 88 points in one game. ...
