Edward J. Flint - Retired Principal, Coach 86
Edward J. Flint of Aurora, a retired principal and high school coach, died Tuesday. He was 86.
Services will be at 9:30 a.m. today at Olinger Chapel, West 29th Avenue and Wadsworth Boulevard Interment will be in Fort Logan National Cemetery.
He was born May 3, 1906 in Evans. In 1927, he married Virginia Lee Atkin. She preceded him in death.
Flint graduated in 1928 from the University of Northern Colorado, where he was a wrestling champion. In 1962, he received a Ph.D. from the University of Denver.
He served in the Army Air Force from 1942 to 1947 and retired as a colonel after 32 years of reserve and active service.
He was head football coach at Fort Morgan High School and basketball coach at North High School in Denver. Both schools won state championships while he was coach. He later became principal at Alcott Elementary School and retired in 1971 as principal of Grant Junior High School.
He was a charter member and founder of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and a 32nd-degree Mason.
He is survived by a son, Richard Northglenn; a daughter, Janet Lee Cox, Santa Ana, Calif; two brothers, two sisters, eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
