Capt. Jack Parkinson Paces Wildcats To 64-31 Decision Over Vanderbilt

PADUCAH, Ky., (AP) -- Kentucky's Wildcats took a 64-31 decision from Vanderbilt University's basketball team here tonight before a capacity crowd of 2,000 persons.

The game was a rather listless one except for a few bright spots. Ralph Beard, Wildcat guard, began the scoring after two and a half minutes of play. The Commodores were held pointless for five full minutes, after which Jay Ball, a guard, broke the ice for Vanderbilt with a free throw.Kentucky settled down to business and behind the point-making of Wallace Jones and Jack Parkinson enjoyed a 30 to 16 lead at the half.

Vanderbilt threatened in the second period when Frank Blair, center, rang up two field goals and Hank Duvier, forward, tossed in another in rapid-fire order. The Wildcats pressed at that stage and the Commodores soon cooled off. Kentucky dominated the play for the remainder of the game.

Parkinson led the point-makers of both teams with 23 markers. Ball was top player for the Commodores with 15.
