Cats Beat Miss 74-69
Kentucky established their gameplan early, going low to Jamaal Magoire in the post. Jam responded, as he had 11 first-half points on 5-7 shooting from the field, and 1-4 from the free throw line. Jam also had 7 rebounds by halftime, as UK led 39-29. Big Jam finished the night as the leading scorer and rebounder for Kentucky with yet another double-double on the season, as he had 19 points and 14 rebounds.
Keith Bogans also played well for the Cats, scoring 12 points, including hitting 50% from 3 point range on 3 3-pointers out of six attempts. Keith was the only UK player to make a "3" on the night, as UK was a dismal 3-17, or 17.6% from the arc for the game. Keith also had some trouble from the free-throw line, hitting only 1 of his 6 attempts, but played an all-around game, picking up 5 rebounds and gathering 4 assists to tie Tayshaun Prince for the team leader in that category.
In addition to the 4 assists, Tayshaun Prince was the only other Cat in double figures with 10 points, but struggled to get them on 3-10 shooting, 4-4 from the foul line. Desmond Allison was the other Cat who struggled from the field, shooting a frigid 1-10 from the field. Dez did pick up 6 rebounds to finish 2nd to Jamaal for team honors. Jules Camara also contributed with a strong performance off the bench with 6 points on 3-4 shooting, and had 8 rebounds in almost 19 minutes of play.
Marcus Hicks led the Rebels, and was the game-high scorer with 27 points. No other Rebel scored in double figures.
Kentucky improves to 12-5 on the season, and 3-1 in SEC play. Ole Miss dropped their 5th game in a row, falling to 12-6 on the season, and 0-5 in the SEC West. The Wildcats will face a very tough Vanderbilt squad on Saturday in the first of 3 consecutive road games.
